New York State Christian Endeavor
For Christ and the Church

Our History

Christian Endeavor was founded on February 2, 1881 by Francis E. Clark, Pastor of the Williston Congregational Church in Portland, Maine.  He had a great concern for the youth who had made a clear decision to accept Christ, but were not involved in the church's activities.  An invitation was extended to the young people of the congregation to come to a meeting titled "Where do we go from here?"

Out of that meeting 57 young people formed a society of Christian Endeavor to promote an earnest Christian life among its members, to enrich their friendships, and to make them more useful in the service of God.

Christian Endeavor has since grown into a world-wide ministry for young people, training them for leadership in the church.

Our Principles

CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOR MOTTO

For Christ and the Church

THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOR

1. CONFESSION OF CHRIST – If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (Romans 10:9)

2. SERVICE FOR CHRIST – I beseech you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.  (Romans 12:1)

3. LOYALTY TO CHRIST'S CHURCH - And He called him and said unto him…give an account of thy stewardship. (Luke 16:2)

4. FELLOWSHIP WITH CHRIST’S PEOPLE  If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the spirit…of one accord, of one mind. (Philippians 2:1,2)

Our Pledge

Trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ for strength, I promise Him that I will strive to do whatever He would like to have me do; that I will make it the rule of my life to pray and to read the Bible every day, and to support the work and worship of my own church in every way possible, and that just so far as I know how, throughout my whole life I will endeavor to lead a Christian life.
